사도행전 17장

1 그들이 암비볼리와 아볼로니아로 다녀가 데살로니가에 이르니 거기 유대인의 회당이 있는지라
When they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a Jewish synagogue.

2 바울이 자기의 관례대로 그들에게로 들어가서 세 안식일에 성경을 가지고 강론하며
As his custom was, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures,

3 뜻을 풀어 그리스도가 해를 받고 죽은 자 가운데서 다시 살아나야 할 것을 증언하고 이르되 내가 너희에게 전하는 이 예수가 곧 그리스도라 하니
explaining and proving that the Christ had to suffer and rise from the dead. "This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Christ," he said.

4 그 중의 어떤 사람 곧 경건한 헬라인의 큰 무리와 적지 않은 귀부인도 권함을 받고 바울과 실라를 따르나
Some of the Jews were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a large number of God-fearing Greeks and not a few prominent women.

5 그러나 유대인들은 시기하여 저자의 어떤 불량한 사람들을 데리고 떼를 지어 성을 소동하게 하여 야손의 집에 침입하여 그들을 백성에게 끌어내려고 찾았으나
But the Jews were jealous; so they rounded up some bad characters from the marketplace, formed a mob and started a riot in the city. They rushed to Jasons house in search of Paul and Silas in order to bring them out to the crowd.

6 발견하지 못하매 야손과 몇 형제들을 끌고 읍장들 앞에 가서 소리 질러 이르되 천하를 어지럽게 하던 이 사람들이 여기도 이르매
But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some other brothers before the city officials, shouting: "These men who have caused trouble all over the world have now come here,

7 야손이 그들을 맞아 들였도다 이 사람들이 다 가이사의 명을 거역하여 말하되 다른 임금 곧 예수라 하는 이가 있다 하더이다 하니
and Jason has welcomed them into his house. They are all defying Caesars decrees, saying that there is another king, one called Jesus."

8 무리와 읍장들이 이 말을 듣고 소동하여
When they heard this, the crowd and the city officials were thrown into turmoil.

9 야손과 그 나머지 사람들에게 보석금을 받고 놓아 주니라
Then they made Jason and the others post bond and let them go.

- 복음 : 대하는 사람의 관점에 따라 다른 결과(수용-복된소식, 거부-정죄의소식)

바울의 행동

사도행전 16장

35 ○날이 새매 상관들이 부하를 보내어 이 사람들을 놓으라 하니
When it was daylight, the magistrates sent their officers to the jailer with the order: "Release those men."

36 간수가 그 말대로 바울에게 말하되 상관들이 사람을 보내어 너희를 놓으라 하였으니 이제는 나가서 평안히 가라 하거늘
The jailer told Paul, "The magistrates have ordered that you and Silas be released. Now you can leave. Go in peace."

37 바울이 이르되 로마 사람인 우리를 죄도 정하지 아니하고 공중 앞에서 때리고 옥에 가두었다가 이제는 가만히 내보내고자 하느냐 아니라 그들이 친히 와서 우리를 데리고 나가야 하리라 한대
But Paul said to the officers: "They beat us publicly without a trial, even though we are Roman citizens, and threw us into prison. And now do they want to get rid of us quietly? No! Let them come themselves and escort us out."

38 부하들이 이 말을 상관들에게 보고하니 그들이 로마 사람이라 하는 말을 듣고 두려워하여
The officers reported this to the magistrates, and when they heard that Paul and Silas were Roman citizens, they were alarmed.

39 와서 권하여 데리고 나가 그 성에서 떠나기를 청하니
They came to appease them and escorted them from the prison, requesting them to leave the city.

40 두 사람이 옥에서 나와 루디아의 집에 들어가서 형제들을 만나 보고 위로하고 가니라
After Paul and Silas came out of the prison, they went to Lydias house, where they met with the brothers and encouraged them. Then they left.

1. 배경지식
- 전날 복음을 전한 것으로 고소를 당했을 때(행16:21)에 바울은 항변하지 않았음
- 상관들에게는 지진 후 탈출한 죄수가 없는 상황이 두려움의 요소였을 것임(지진의 원인이 바울과 실라 일 것이다)
- 날이 새매 : 날이 새기(새벽)를 기다렸다가 곧장 시행함
- 새벽에 놓아주는 행위 : 상관들의 잘못(무죄/유죄와 관계없는 심판 행위)을 무마하는 책략
- 친히 와서 우리를 데리고 나가야 : 무죄의 증거를 보이는 행위, 복음을 믿고 전하는 것이 죄가 아니다(행16:21)
- 로마 시민 권리 : 범죄행위로 고소를 당할 경우 정식 재판절차 없이 고문을 동반하는 심문이나 형벌, 결박을 당하지 않을 권리, 정식재판 후 그 판결에 만족할 수 없을 경우 황제가 주관하는 로마의 최고법정에 항소할 수 있는 권리, 십자가형과 같은 잔인하고 모욕적인 형벌 방식을 피할 수 있는 권리 등

출애굽기 16장

14 그 이슬이 마른 후에 광야 지면에 작고 둥글며 서리 같이 가는 것이 있는지라
When the dew was gone, thin flakes like frost on the ground appeared on the desert floor.

15 이스라엘 자손이 보고 그것이 무엇인지 알지 못하여 서로 이르되 이것이 무엇이냐 하니 모세가 그들에게 이르되 이는 여호와께서 너희에게 주어 먹게 하신 양식이라
When the Israelites saw it, they said to each other, "What is it?" For they did not know what it was. Moses said to them, "It is the bread the LORD has given you to eat.

16 여호와께서 이같이 명령하시기를 너희 각 사람은 먹을 만큼만 이것을 거둘지니 곧 너희 사람 수효대로 한 사람에 한 오멜씩 거두되 각 사람이 그의 장막에 있는 자들을 위하여 거둘지니라 하셨느니라
This is what the LORD has commanded: `Each one is to gather as much as he needs. Take an omer for each person you have in your tent."

17 이스라엘 자손이 그같이 하였더니 그 거둔 것이 많기도 하고 적기도 하나
The Israelites did as they were told; some gathered much, some little.

18 오멜로 되어 본즉 많이 거둔 자도 남음이 없고 적게 거둔 자도 부족함이 없이 각 사람은 먹을 만큼만 거두었더라
And when they measured it by the omer, he who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little did not have too little. Each one gathered as much as he needed.

19 모세가 그들에게 이르기를 아무든지 아침까지 그것을 남겨두지 말라 하였으나
Then Moses said to them, "No one is to keep any of it until morning."

20 그들이 모세에게 순종하지 아니하고 더러는 아침까지 두었더니 벌레가 생기고 냄새가 난지라 모세가 그들에게 노하니라
However, some of them paid no attention to Moses; they kept part of it until morning, but it was full of maggots and began to smell. So Moses was angry with them.

21 ○무리가 아침마다 각 사람은 먹을 만큼만 거두었고 햇볕이 뜨겁게 쬐면 그것이 스러졌더라
Each morning everyone gathered as much as he needed, and when the sun grew hot, it melted away.

- 사람의 기억왜곡(출16:3) : 배부르고 편한 노예생활은 없었다. 단지 지금이 가장 힘들고 어려울 뿐이다.
- 장정만 60만명(전체 인구 200만명으로 추정)인 상황

강권하여 머물게 하라

사도행전 16장

11 ○우리가 드로아에서 배로 떠나 사모드라게로 직행하여 이튿날 네압볼리로 가고
From Troas we put out to sea and sailed straight for Samothrace, and the next day on to Neapolis.

12 거기서 빌립보에 이르니 이는 마게도냐 지방의 첫 성이요 또 로마의 식민지라 이 성에서 수일을 유하다가
From there we traveled to Philippi, a Roman colony and the leading city of that district of Macedonia. And we stayed there several days.

13 안식일에 우리가 기도할 곳이 있을까 하여 문 밖 강가에 나가 거기 앉아서 모인 여자들에게 말하는데
On the Sabbath we went outside the city gate to the river, where we expected to find a place of prayer. We sat down and began to speak to the women who had gathered there.

14 두아디라 시에 있는 자색 옷감 장사로서 하나님을 섬기는 루디아라 하는 한 여자가 말을 듣고 있을 때 주께서 그 마음을 열어 바울의 말을 따르게 하신지라
One of those listening was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Pauls message.

15 그와 그 집이 다 세례를 받고 우리에게 청하여 이르되 만일 나를 주 믿는 자로 알거든 내 집에 들어와 유하라 하고 강권하여 머물게 하니라
When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. "If you consider me a believer in the Lord," she said, "come and stay at my house." And she persuaded us.

- 루디아 : 유럽 최초의 신자에 속함, 출신지역을 지칭하는 명칭임

사르밧 과부의 시련

열왕기상 17장

17 ○이 일 후에 그 집 주인 되는 여인의 아들이 병들어 증세가 심히 위중하다가 숨이 끊어진지라
Some time later the son of the woman who owned the house became ill. He grew worse and worse, and finally stopped breathing.

18 여인이 엘리야에게 이르되 하나님의 사람이여 당신이 나와 더불어 무슨 상관이 있기로 내 죄를 생각나게 하고 또 내 아들을 죽게 하려고 내게 오셨나이까
She said to Elijah, "What do you have against me, man of God? Did you come to remind me of my sin and kill my son?"

19 엘리야가 그에게 그의 아들을 달라 하여 그를 그 여인의 품에서 받아 안고 자기가 거처하는 다락에 올라가서 자기 침상에 누이고
"Give me your son," Elijah replied. He took him from her arms, carried him to the upper room where he was staying, and laid him on his bed.

20 여호와께 부르짖어 이르되 내 하나님 여호와여 주께서 또 내가 우거하는 집 과부에게 재앙을 내리사 그 아들이 죽게 하셨나이까 하고
Then he cried out to the LORD, "O LORD my God, have you brought tragedy also upon this widow I am staying with, by causing her son to die?"

21 그 아이 위에 몸을 세 번 펴서 엎드리고 여호와께 부르짖어 이르되 내 하나님 여호와여 원하건대 이 아이의 혼으로 그의 몸에 돌아오게 하옵소서 하니
Then he stretched himself out on the boy three times and cried to the LORD, "O LORD my God, let this boys life return to him!"

22 여호와께서 엘리야의 소리를 들으시므로 그 아이의 혼이 몸으로 돌아오고 살아난지라
The LORD heard Elijahs cry, and the boys life returned to him, and he lived.

23 엘리야가 그 아이를 안고 다락에서 방으로 내려가서 그의 어머니에게 주며 이르되 보라 네 아들이 살아났느니라
Elijah picked up the child and carried him down from the room into the house. He gave him to his mother and said, "Look, your son is alive!"

24 여인이 엘리야에게 이르되 내가 이제야 당신은 하나님의 사람이시요 당신의 입에 있는 여호와의 말씀이 진실한 줄 아노라 하니라
Then the woman said to Elijah, "Now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the LORD from your mouth is the truth."

사도행전 16장

6 ○성령이 아시아에서 말씀을 전하지 못하게 하시거늘 그들이 브루기아와 갈라디아 땅으로 다녀가
Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia.

7 무시아 앞에 이르러 비두니아로 가고자 애쓰되 예수의 영이 허락하지 아니하시는지라
When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to.

8 무시아를 지나 드로아로 내려갔는데
So they passed by Mysia and went down to Troas.

9 밤에 환상이 바울에게 보이니 마게도냐 사람 하나가 서서 그에게 청하여 이르되 마게도냐로 건너와서 우리를 도우라 하거늘
During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him, "Come over to Macedonia and help us."

10 바울이 그 환상을 보았을 때 우리가 곧 마게도냐로 떠나기를 힘쓰니 이는 하나님이 저 사람들에게 복음을 전하라고 우리를 부르신 줄로 인정함이러라
After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.

디모데를 데리고 가다

사도행전 16장

1 바울이 더베와 루스드라에도 이르매 거기 디모데라 하는 제자가 있으니 그 어머니는 믿는 유대 여자요 아버지는 헬라인이라
He came to Derbe and then to Lystra, where a disciple named Timothy lived, whose mother was a Jewess and a believer, but whose father was a Greek.

2 디모데는 루스드라와 이고니온에 있는 형제들에게 칭찬 받는 자니
The brothers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him.

3 바울이 그를 데리고 떠나고자 할새 그 지역에 있는 유대인으로 말미암아 그를 데려다가 할례를 행하니 이는 그 사람들이 그의 아버지는 헬라인인 줄 다 앎이러라
Paul wanted to take him along on the journey, so he circumcised him because of the Jews who lived in that area, for they all knew that his father was a Greek.

4 여러 성으로 다녀 갈 때에 예루살렘에 있는 사도와 장로들이 작정한 규례를 그들에게 주어 지키게 하니
As they traveled from town to town, they delivered the decisions reached by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem for the people to obey.

5 이에 여러 교회가 믿음이 더 굳건해지고 수가 날마다 늘어가니라
So the churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers.

- 믿음 : '지식적 동의'가 아닌 '인격/실천적 동의'
- 칭찬 받는 자 : 인격적 성숙도(행6:3, 일곱 집사 선정기준)

바나바와 바울이 헤어지다

사도행전 15장

36 ○며칠 후에 바울이 바나바더러 말하되 우리가 주의 말씀을 전한 각 성으로 다시 가서 형제들이 어떠한가 방문하자 하고
Some time later Paul said to Barnabas, "Let us go back and visit the brothers in all the towns where we preached the word of the Lord and see how they are doing."

37 바나바는 마가라 하는 요한도 데리고 가고자 하나
Barnabas wanted to take John, also called Mark, with them,

38 바울은 밤빌리아에서 자기들을 떠나 함께 일하러 가지 아니한 자를 데리고 가는 것이 옳지 않다 하여
but Paul did not think it wise to take him, because he had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in the work.

39 서로 심히 다투어 피차 갈라서니 바나바는 마가를 데리고 배 타고 구브로로 가고
They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company. Barnabas took Mark and sailed for Cyprus,

40 바울은 실라를 택한 후에 형제들에게 주의 은혜에 부탁함을 받고 떠나
but Paul chose Silas and left, commended by the brothers to the grace of the Lord.

41 수리아와 길리기아로 다니며 교회들을 견고하게 하니라
He went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.

야고보의 제안

사도행전 15장

12 ○온 무리가 가만히 있어 바나바와 바울이 하나님께서 자기들로 말미암아 이방인 중에서 행하신 표적과 기사에 관하여 말하는 것을 듣더니
The whole assembly became silent as they listened to Barnabas and Paul telling about the miraculous signs and wonders God had done among the Gentiles through them.

13 말을 마치매 야고보가 대답하여 이르되 형제들아 내 말을 들으라
When they finished, James spoke up: "Brothers, listen to me.

14 하나님이 처음으로 이방인 중에서 자기 이름을 위할 백성을 취하시려고 그들을 돌보신 것을 시므온이 말하였으니
Simon has described to us how God at first showed his concern by taking from the Gentiles a people for himself.

15 선지자들의 말씀이 이와 일치하도다 기록된 바
The words of the prophets are in agreement with this, as it is written:

16 이 후에 내가 돌아와서 다윗의 무너진 장막을 다시 지으며 또 그 허물어진 것을 다시 지어 일으키리니
"`After this I will return and rebuild Davids fallen tent. Its ruins I will rebuild, and I will restore it,

17 이는 그 남은 사람들과 내 이름으로 일컬음을 받는 모든 이방인들로 주를 찾게 하려 함이라 하셨으니
that the remnant of men may seek the Lord, and all the Gentiles who bear my name, says the Lord, who does these things

18 즉 예로부터 이것을 알게 하시는 주의 말씀이라 함과 같으니라
that have been known for ages.

19 그러므로 내 의견에는 이방인 중에서 하나님께로 돌아오는 자들을 괴롭게 하지 말고
"It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God.

20 다만 우상의 더러운 것과 음행과 목매어 죽인 것과 피를 멀리하라고 편지하는 것이 옳으니
Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood.

21 이는 예로부터 각 성에서 모세를 전하는 자가 있어 안식일마다 회당에서 그 글을 읽음이라 하더라
For Moses has been preached in every city from the earliest times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath."

The apostles and elders met to consider this question.

7 많은 변론이 있은 후에 베드로가 일어나 말하되 형제들아 너희도 알거니와 하나님이 이방인들로 내 입에서 복음의 말씀을 들어 믿게 하시려고 오래 전부터 너희 가운데서 나를 택하시고
After much discussion, Peter got up and addressed them: "Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe.

8 또 마음을 아시는 하나님이 우리에게와 같이 그들에게도 성령을 주어 증언하시고
God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us.

9 믿음으로 그들의 마음을 깨끗이 하사 그들이나 우리나 차별하지 아니하셨느니라
He made no distinction between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith.

10 그런데 지금 너희가 어찌하여 하나님을 시험하여 우리 조상과 우리도 능히 메지 못하던 멍에를 제자들의 목에 두려느냐
Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of the disciples a yoke that neither we nor our fathers have been able to bear?

11 그러나 우리는 그들이 우리와 동일하게 주 예수의 은혜로 구원 받는 줄을 믿노라 하니라
No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are."

할례논쟁

[다번역성경찬송]

사도행전 15장

1 어떤 사람들이 유대로부터 내려와서 형제들을 가르치되 너희가 모세의 법대로 할례를 받지 아니하면 능히 구원을 받지 못하리라 하니
Some men came down from Judea to Antioch and were teaching the brothers: "Unless you are circumcised, according to the custom taught by Moses, you cannot be saved."

2 바울 및 바나바와 그들 사이에 적지 아니한 다툼과 변론이 일어난지라 형제들이 이 문제에 대하여 바울과 바나바와 및 그 중의 몇 사람을 예루살렘에 있는 사도와 장로들에게 보내기로 작정하니라
This brought Paul and Barnabas into sharp dispute and debate with them. So Paul and Barnabas were appointed, along with some other believers, to go up to Jerusalem to see the apostles and elders about this question.

3 그들이 교회의 전송을 받고 베니게와 사마리아로 다니며 이방인들이 주께 돌아온 일을 말하여 형제들을 다 크게 기쁘게 하더라
The church sent them on their way, and as they traveled through Phoenicia and Samaria, they told how the Gentiles had been converted. This news made all the brothers very glad.

4 예루살렘에 이르러 교회와 사도와 장로들에게 영접을 받고 하나님이 자기들과 함께 계셔 행하신 모든 일을 말하매
When they came to Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church and the apostles and elders, to whom they reported everything God had done through them.

5 바리새파 중에 어떤 믿는 사람들이 일어나 말하되 이방인에게 할례를 행하고 모세의 율법을 지키라 명하는 것이 마땅하다 하니라
Then some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said, "The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to obey the law of Moses."

After going through Pisidia, they came into Pamphylia,

and when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia.

26 거기서 배 타고 안디옥에 이르니 이 곳은 두 사도가 이룬 그 일을 위하여 전에 하나님의 은혜에 부탁하던 곳이라
From Attalia they sailed back to Antioch, where they had been committed to the grace of God for the work they had now completed.

27 그들이 이르러 교회를 모아 하나님이 함께 행하신 모든 일과 이방인들에게 믿음의 문을 여신 것을 보고하고
On arriving there, they gathered the church together and reported all that God had done through them and how he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles.

28 제자들과 함께 오래 있으니라
And they stayed there a long time with the disciples.

In Lystra there sat a man crippled in his feet, who was lame from birth and had never walked.

9 바울이 말하는 것을 듣거늘 바울이 주목하여 구원 받을 만한 믿음이 그에게 있는 것을 보고
He listened to Paul as he was speaking. Paul looked directly at him, saw that he had faith to be healed

10 큰 소리로 이르되 네 발로 바로 일어서라 하니 그 사람이 일어나 걷는지라
and called out, "Stand up on your feet!" At that, the man jumped up and began to walk.

11 무리가 바울이 한 일을 보고 루가오니아 방언으로 소리 질러 이르되 신들이 사람의 형상으로 우리 가운데 내려오셨다 하여
When the crowd saw what Paul had done, they shouted in the Lycaonian language, "The gods have come down to us in human form!"

12 바나바는 제우스라 하고 바울은 그 중에 말하는 자이므로 헤르메스라 하더라
Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul they called Hermes because he was the chief speaker.

13 시외 제우스 신당의 제사장이 소와 화환들을 가지고 대문 앞에 와서 무리와 함께 제사하고자 하니
The priest of Zeus, whose temple was just outside the city, brought bulls and wreaths to the city gates because he and the crowd wanted to offer sacrifices to them.

14 두 사도 바나바와 바울이 듣고 옷을 찢고 무리 가운데 뛰어 들어가서 소리 질러
But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of this, they tore their clothes and rushed out into the crowd, shouting:

15 이르되 여러분이여 어찌하여 이러한 일을 하느냐 우리도 여러분과 같은 성정을 가진 사람이라 여러분에게 복음을 전하는 것은 이런 헛된 일을 버리고 천지와 바다와 그 가운데 만물을 지으시고 살아 계신 하나님께로 돌아오게 함이라
"Men, why are you doing this? We too are only men, human like you. We are bringing you good news, telling you to turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made heaven and earth and sea and everything in them.

16 하나님이 지나간 세대에는 모든 민족으로 자기들의 길들을 가게 방임하셨으나
In the past, he let all nations go their own way.

17 그러나 자기를 증언하지 아니하신 것이 아니니 곧 여러분에게 하늘로부터 비를 내리시며 결실기를 주시는 선한 일을 하사 음식과 기쁨으로 여러분의 마음에 만족하게 하셨느니라 하고
Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy."

18 이렇게 말하여 겨우 무리를 말려 자기들에게 제사를 못하게 하니라
Even with these words, they had difficulty keeping the crowd from sacrificing to them.

Then all of you came to me and said, "Let us send men ahead to spy out the land for us and bring back a report about the route we are to take and the towns we will come to."

The idea seemed good to me; so I selected twelve of you, one man from each tribe.

They left and went up into the hill country, and came to the Valley of Eshcol and explored it.

25 그 땅의 열매를 손에 가지고 우리에게로 돌아와서 우리에게 말하여 이르되 우리의 하나님 여호와께서 우리에게 주시는 땅이 좋더라 하였느니라
Taking with them some of the fruit of the land, they brought it down to us and reported, "It is a good land that the LORD our God is giving us."

After a long time had passed and the LORD had given Israel rest from all their enemies around them, Joshua, by then old and well advanced in years,

2 여호수아가 온 이스라엘 곧 그들의 장로들과 수령들과 재판장들과 관리들을 불러다가 그들에게 이르되 나는 나이가 많아 늙었도다
summoned all Israel -- their elders, leaders, judges and officials -- and said to them: "I am old and well advanced in years.

3 너희의 하나님 여호와께서 너희를 위하여 이 모든 나라에 행하신 일을 너희가 다 보았거니와 너희의 하나님 여호와 그는 너희를 위하여 싸우신 이시니라
You yourselves have seen everything the LORD your God has done to all these nations for your sake; it was the LORD your God who fought for you.

4 보라 내가 요단에서부터 해 지는 쪽 대해까지의 남아 있는 나라들과 이미 멸한 모든 나라를 내가 너희를 위하여 제비 뽑아 너희의 지파에게 기업이 되게 하였느니라
Remember how I have allotted as an inheritance for your tribes all the land of the nations that remain -- the nations I conquered -- between the Jordan and the Great Sea in the west.

5 너희의 하나님 여호와 그가 너희 앞에서 그들을 쫓아내사 너희 목전에서 그들을 떠나게 하시리니 너희의 하나님 여호와께서 너희에게 말씀하신 대로 너희가 그 땅을 차지할 것이라
The LORD your God himself will drive them out of your way. He will push them out before you, and you will take possession of their land, as the LORD your God promised you.

6 그러므로 너희는 크게 힘써 모세의 율법 책에 기록된 것을 다 지켜 행하라 그것을 떠나 우로나 좌로나 치우치지 말라
"Be very strong; be careful to obey all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, without turning aside to the right or to the left.

7 너희 중에 남아 있는 이 민족들 중에 들어 가지 말라 그들의 신들의 이름을 부르지 말라 그것들을 가리켜 맹세하지 말라 또 그것을 섬겨서 그것들에게 절하지 말라
Do not associate with these nations that remain among you; do not invoke the names of their gods or swear by them. You must not serve them or bow down to them.

8 오직 너희의 하나님 여호와께 가까이 하기를 오늘까지 행한 것 같이 하라
But you are to hold fast to the LORD your God, as you have until now.

9 이는 여호와께서 강대한 나라들을 너희의 앞에서 쫓아내셨으므로 오늘까지 너희에게 맞선 자가 하나도 없었느니라
"The LORD has driven out before you great and powerful nations; to this day no one has been able to withstand you.

10 너희 중 한 사람이 천 명을 쫓으리니 이는 너희의 하나님 여호와 그가 너희에게 말씀하신 것 같이 너희를 위하여 싸우심이라
One of you routs a thousand, because the LORD your God fights for you, just as he promised.

11. 그러므로 스스로 조심하여 너희의 하나님 여호와를 사랑하라
So be very careful to love the LORD your God.

12. 너희가 만일 돌아서서 너희 중에 남아 있는 이 민족들을 가까이 하여 더불어 혼인하며 서로 왕래하면
"But if you turn away and ally yourselves with the survivors of these nations that remain among you and if you intermarry with them and associate with them,

13. 확실히 알라 너희의 하나님 여호와께서 이 민족들을 너희 목전에서 다시는 쫓아내지 아니하시리니 그들이 너희에게 올무가 되며 덫이 되며 너희의 옆구리에 채찍이 되며 너희의 눈에 가시가 되어서 너희가 마침내 너희의 하나님 여호와께서 너희에게 주신 이 아름다운 땅에서 멸하리라
then you may be sure that the LORD your God will no longer drive out these nations before you. Instead, they will become snares and traps for you, whips on your backs and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land, which the LORD your God has given you.

News of this reached the ears of the church at Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch.

23 그가 이르러 하나님의 은혜를 보고 기뻐하여 모든 사람에게 굳건한 마음으로 주와 함께 머물러 있으라 권하니
When he arrived and saw the evidence of the grace of God, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts.

24 바나바는 착한 사람이요 성령과 믿음이 충만한 사람이라 이에 큰 무리가 주께 더하여지더라
He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord.

25 바나바가 사울을 찾으러 다소에 가서
Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul,

26 만나매 안디옥에 데리고 와서 둘이 교회에 일 년간 모여 있어 큰 무리를 가르쳤고 제자들이 안디옥에서 비로소 그리스도인이라 일컬음을 받게 되었더라
and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.
